When using Taobao, have you ever encountered a message that an item cannot be shipped? Don't worry, you're not the only one facing this issue.
This usually happens because some items are classified as prohibited for export. When Taobao's system detects that you are overseas, it automatically blocks the information for these items.
However, sometimes the system makes mistakes. You might just want to buy a small appliance, but it tells you the item cannot be shipped. Or the item you're buying isn't for export at all—it's a gift for parents or friends in China—but you still face the same restriction.
Previously, we could use a relatively simple method to solve this: change the shipping address on Taobao to a domestic address. However, this trick no longer works because Taobao's system now monitors your IP address.
But don't worry, I'll share some new solutions below to help you avoid this hassle.
Solutions
1. Use a VPN
Everyone is familiar with VPNs—they're essential for accessing the internet freely. But this time, instead of going out, you're coming back in 🤣
This method is simple and direct: find a VPN withdomestic routesand switch your IP to a domestic one. The issue of items not being shippable is instantly resolved. The only catch is that VPNs with domestic routes are hard to find, and they definitely require payment. If you frequently encounter shipping issues, it's worth the investment.
2. Ask a friend in China to add items to your cart
If you only encounter this issue occasionally and don't want to spend money, there's another clever trick:
Ask a family member or friend in China to log into your Taobao account, add the items to your shopping cart, then you log back in and place the order directly. This method works because the system only blocks you from viewing item details; if the product is already in your cart, you can proceed to checkout. However, this method is indeed more troublesome, and sharing your account with others requires caution 😁
3. Turn off your phone's location services
This method hasn't been tested in practice, but we're sharing it here for those interested to try:
Log out of the Taobao app, then disable your phone's location services. Reopening Taobao will trigger a location selection interface, where you can manually set your location to one within China.
